Daniel Green was a young traveling shoe salesman for the Wallace Elliott Company in New York City. In 1881 he made a trip to Dolgeville, New York. Once there, he was shown a pair of felt shoes that had been created from waste pieces of piano. He noticed that these felt shoes were being worn by a number of the factory workers so that they could keep their feet warm and comfortable on the cold factory stone floors. The rest was history.
